Why has online casino software developer Odobo closed?

With a note of sadness for those who have already left the wonderful world of online gambling. This article is dedicated to Odobo, which released quite a few interesting games, but was forced to close. That’s a shame.

Why a pity?

online gamblingBecause I personally liked some of their games, and I thought the company had good potential. Let’s find out who Odobo was, what games they produced and why they closed down. Who is Odobo? The name Odobo never really caught on like NetEnt, Microgaming, Play’n GO, Yggdrasil and some other brands. But it was a good class developer. Their games were not often offered in casinos, but some big operators, like Mr Green, offered their software. The developer appeared in 2012 to simplify and cheapen the process of developing and marketing online games. According to the founder, many small companies with great ideas cannot be implemented because there are too many barriers – high costs, lack of technology, compliance with jurisdictional requirements. So it was decided to create a company that would take care of most of the work and allow small studios to bring their ideas to life in peace. Odobo launched the Games Development Kit (GDK) to create HTML5 games. This used an engine and Random Number Generator certified by several well-known testing labs, giving access to rich regulated markets. Other solutions were also created to make it easy to integrate the created products into casino sites. All of this took a year and a half of work and millions of dollars of investment.

Odobo games Under the brand Odobo came out a lot of interesting slots. You can play it in one of the best canadian online casinos. This development is not Odobo specifically, they were all created on their platform. One of the last of these slots was Stereo Miami, a bright, unusual slot machine. The first slot of theirs that impressed me was Akaneiro. They launched it in 2014, and at the time it seemed like something fantastic. Great design, style in every detail. There was a feeling of something exotic. Today it doesn’t look as spectacular, but it’s been 4 years and it still looks more solid than many slots of last year and even this year. On this topic, the best slots with bonuses. What are the bonus games in slots? There was also the cool KGB Bears slot, the exciting Rampage Riches, The Ante Engine, Extinction, The Oddventurers. All in all, a whole series of interesting slots. Many small developers used Odobo platform to create games, and they are still working today. For example, Core Gaming, Foxium, Rabcat, Fuga Gaming.  In 2014, the company won the title Services Rising Star according to EGR. In September of the same year, Odobo was nominated for Digital Gaming Innovation by the Global Gaming Awards. In 2015, two more nominations and one win in the mobile software category. Everything seemed fine.

The developer regularly gave out new games, and not only slots, was nominated, created its own competitions, participated in exhibitions, slowly recruited partners. But… in May 2016 it closed down. What happened to Odobo? At some point Odobo simply became unprofitable. That’s what caused the company to shut down. As the developer’s representatives stated, costs were increasing at a faster rate than their business was growing. Sadly, the creator of Odobo should have peace of mind now. On March 8 this year, Yggdrasil took up the baton and announced the launch of the YGS Masters platform, which is designed to make life easier for developers. As stated by the director of Yggdrasil, independent developers need the support of a reputable partner with advanced technology. Yggdrasil at the moment this is one of the most promising, in my opinion, developers. If he took the case, I think he will do everything sensibly. To take advantage of the platform will only invite studios, plus the quality control should be strict. So the expectations are high. For now we are just waiting for news about the first partners and first games. Conclusion Maybe someone remembers Odobo games, played them. You can leave your opinion about this company in the comments.
